Homeland Security contract officer shot dead in Oakland, second injured
Oakland police and the FBI in San Francisco are investigating a Friday night shooting at the Ronald V. Dellums federal building in downtown Clay Street that left one contract security guard dead and one injured.
The incident began when a car stopped at the building at 9:45 p.m. and a person inside the vehicle shot at the officers. Both worked for the Federal Department of Homeland Security Protection. The FBI sent investigators and a evidence response team to the crime scene, and said in a statement Saturday that they would work with Oakland police to resolve the case.
The federal building was in the area of violent protests Friday night over the murder of George Floyd by police in Minneapolis. FBI officials did not immediately say whether the shootings and protests are related.
